Tooth Extraction

The prospect of losing a tooth can seem daunting, whatever the reason. The professionals at Woodbury Dental Care understand and empathize with your feelings and will do everything to make the procedure efficient and comfortable.

We like to focus on solutions and would be happy to explain your tooth replacement options before extraction. It can be easier to go through the process when you know that you won’t have to live with that gap in your smile forever. We offer dental implants, bridges, and partial dentures that will complete your smile and allow you to chew comfortably again.

We Don’t Take Tooth Extraction Lightly

Our role as dentists is to keep teeth healthy and functional for as long as possible. However, there are cases where removing a tooth is necessary to protect your overall oral health.

If our dentists recommend tooth extraction, they will explain why and how the procedure will benefit your long-term oral health. They are excellent communicators and use visual aids like digital x-rays and intraoral images to show you what they see, so you feel confident and informed about your treatment.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

We will make every effort to save a tooth and exhaust all treatment options before considering extraction. The following are some reasons why we might recommend removing a tooth:

  • Extensive tooth decay
  • Advanced gum disease
  • A tooth is broken off below the gumline
  • Advanced root canal infection or abscess

We may also suggest removing one or more teeth to prepare for orthodontics, implant placement, or dentures.

A Stress-Free Tooth Extraction

Our dental team cares deeply about your comfort and wants you to have the most positive experience possible. They will offer you a neck pillow and blanket and help you get settled in our comfortable ergonomic dental chair. If there’s anything else we can do, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

We use potent local anesthetics to numb the tooth to ensure a pain-free procedure. We also offer nitrous oxide or “laughing gas" if you want further relaxation. Nitrous will help soothe your anxious feelings so you can drift comfortably through your appointment.

It's always best to take the rest of the day off and go home to rest and recover. Our dental team will provide after-care instructions that you should follow precisely. Most importantly, we want you to avoid dry socket, a very painful complication that occurs when the protective clot forming over the extraction site is disturbed.

If you experience any problems or have questions once you get home, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Do You Think You Need Tooth Extraction?

If you have a problematic tooth, please call our Woodbury, MN, dental office. We perform emergency tooth extractions, but our experienced dentists will first evaluate your situation to determine if there’s an option left to preserve the tooth.

If not, you can rely on us to put your comfort first and perform a comfortable, stress-free procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

Excellent oral health has many benefits, but you can’t enjoy them if you are too anxious to make an appointment. At Woodbury Dental Care, we offer safe, effective nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax so you don’t have to skip appointments.

Nitrous oxide is a gas mixed with oxygen, and you inhale it through a small nasal mask while you relax in the dental chair. In a few moments, you will feel calm and drowsy and detached from the activity around you. The effects last only as long as we administer the gas, so you will be able to leave our office feeling refreshed and able go on with our usual daily activities.
